In Nevada, APIAVote formed a partnership with the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA) chapter of Nevada. Nevada had the fastest growing Asian American population and second fastest growing Pacific Islander population in the country from 1990-2000. Collectively, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders comprise 4% of the voting age population in the state.

APALA members and APIAVote volunteers produced a mailing, completed a targeted outreach program to Asian American businesses, distributed 15000 pieces of literature. This included postcards focused on the Filipino community at festivals, conventions, over 100 Filipino American businesses and direct mailers. The translated election protection flyer was distributed through 53 APIA businesses and reproduced through the ethnic press. Rozita Lee, the Nevada coordinator was also interviewed about the program on various radio shows. They also outreached to voters through 32000 robo calls which provided a clean list of 15,500, and conducted a phone bank operation targeting 15,000 AAPI voters. A GOTV training was conducted in preparations for the last few weeks leading up to the elections. APIAVote assisted the Nevada field program through attaining and cleaning the voter file for the phone bank operation and direct mailer.
APALA also formed a partnership with other voting rights advocates. Collectively, the group is called “The Nevada Coalition to Protect Your Vote.” Through this effort, APALA & APIAVote generated “Ten Tips to Protect Your Vote,” and provided translations in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog and Vietnamese that were distributed nationally. APIAVote help secure an APIA lawyer to assist on the ground for election protection.
