A coalition comprised of APIAVote, the King County Asian Pacific Islander Coalition (APIC), Raising Our Asian Pacific American Representation (ROAR) and the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA) chapter of Seattle, Washington mobilized Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters in King County, Washington to get out to the polls on Election Day. One of the strengths of this effort was the comprehensive nature of the overall voter engagement strategy. Washington’s program included five points of voter contact – a robo phone call, a direct mailing, two follow up phone calls by English-speaking and bilingual volunteers, and placement of ads in ethnic newspapers. The direct mailer was sent to over 9,000 voters while volunteers followed up with close to 12,000 phone calls.

APIAVote assisted the Washington State program through strategic guidance in developing their field program. APIAVote provided feedback on messaging for the direct mailer, automated robo calls and phone bank operations. Finally, APIAVote organized an out-of-state phone bank operation for Washington State. This program completed close to 6,000 phone calls and trained 6 phone bank coordinators and organized over 75 volunteers.

Phone bank coordinators, who organized between 5-15 volunteers for their program, participated in a training developed by APIAVote that provided them with the necessary tools and materials to implement a phone bank operation. APIAVote organized individual volunteers who were emailed a list of voters, along with all of the other necessary documents, to conduct the calls off-site.
