HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) - Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean tried to fire up party activists at a rally Saturday in Henderson.

Dean spoke to more than 100 volunteers who were planning to make phone calls or go door-to-door for Democratic candidates.

Dean said most people are unhappy with the way the nation is heading after six years of Republican leadership, and Nevada has a "great" slate of candidates who will help take the country in a new direction.

Dean also urged each volunteer to vote early and to get three or four other people to vote early. Early voting in Nevada began Oct. 21 and ends Friday.

State Democratic Chairman Tom Collins and Clark County Commissioner Rory Reid also spoke at the rally outside an office complex.

On Friday, Dean and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dina Titus appeared at a rally with Asian community leaders in Las Vegas.

Titus is locked in a close race with Republican Jim Gibbons.
